The SDGs and COMSAN’s Commitment to Sustainability
- Respect for the environment and the goal of fostering responsible social development are at the core of everything we do. For this reason, COMSAN’s activities have a direct impact on eight of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
At COMSAN, we believe sustainability goes far beyond regulatory compliance: it has been part of our DNA for more than six decades. Responsible manufacturing is not a passing trend for us, but a way of thinking and doing business that is closely aligned with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
What are the SDGs?
The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of 17 global objectives defined by the United Nations to achieve a more prosperous, fair and environmentally respectful future. They address key challenges such as climate action, gender equality, decent work and responsible production, among many others.
Our commitment to the SDGs
From the way we manufacture our products to how we manage resources, COMSAN’s actions are aligned with several SDGs, integrating practices that generate a positive impact on both the environment and society.
COMSAN’s respect for the environment and commitment to responsible social development result in a direct impact on eight of the SDGs.
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being In 2020, we launched the CBS Personas project, a comprehensive initiative that brings together all actions aimed at caring for and protecting our employees in their day-to-day work. The program includes occupational risk prevention measures, physical and mental health initiatives, safety training, workplace ergonomics and awareness campaigns promoting healthy habits. Through CBS Personas, we foster a safe, healthy and motivating work environment, supporting the overall well-being of our team.
- SDG 5: Gender Equality COMSAN has implemented a Gender Equality Plan designed to ensure equal opportunities for all employees, regardless of gender. This plan includes concrete actions such as promoting female leadership, ensuring fairness in recruitment and promotion processes, awareness and training initiatives, work-life balance measures and actions to prevent discrimination. Through these initiatives, COMSAN projects a transparent, responsible and genuinely committed image of equality in the workplace.
- SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy We are firmly committed to the energy transition through the installation of solar panels at our production facilities and the implementation of an Energy Management System (EMS) to optimize consumption. In 2024, 100% of the electricity used at our facilities came from renewable sources, reinforcing our commitment to climate change mitigation. In addition, we continuously monitor energy use and promote internal practices to reduce waste and improve efficiency across all operations.
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Sustainable Economic Growth
Our employees are one of COMSAN’s most valuable assets. For this reason, we strive to ensure optimal working conditions at all times. We promote continuous training, professional development, workplace safety, incentive programs and well-being initiatives. This approach enables our employees to carry out their roles safely, with motivation and satisfaction, fostering sustainable economic growth built on human capital.
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Innovation and industrial development are fundamental pillars at COMSAN. We invest in advanced technology, research into sustainable materials and efficient production processes. This allows us to manufacture high-quality, durable and environmentally responsible products, while strengthening our industrial infrastructure and driving innovative solutions within the sanitary sector.
- SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
For more than 60 years, we have been manufacturing toilet seats using sustainable materials, with over 60% of our raw materials coming from plant-based, organic and recycled sources. In 2024, this proportion of natural raw material was formally certified by the independent certification body SGS.
In addition, our products are designed for long-term use, with a lifespan of over 20 years, reducing the need for replacement and encouraging responsible consumption. Circular economy principles are a cornerstone of our sustainability strategy, and we apply the concepts of reduce, reuse and recycle throughout our entire production process — from raw material selection to the recycling of internally generated waste.
- SDG 13: Climate Action
We have developed specific projects aimed at minimizing the environmental impact of our activities. These include:
- Installation of solar panels
- Reduction in the use of plastic in packaging
- Use of recycled cardboard and eco-responsible materials
Together, these actions contribute to cleaner, more environmentally friendly production, a reduction in our carbon footprint and the promotion of sustainable practices across our entire value chain.
- SDG 15: Life on Land
Our Versagrit® material is certified under PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), which guarantees sustainable forest management and full traceability of our raw materials. This certification provides our customers with the assurance that the resources used come from responsibly managed forests, contributing to ecosystem conservation and biodiversity protection.
Commitment to the future
The SDGs promote fair and sustainable development. By aligning with them, COMSAN demonstrates that it not only pursues economic growth, but also genuinely cares for people and the planet.
Our goal is to continue moving forward and making sustainability a tangible reality in every process, product and relationship with customers and suppliers. Because at COMSAN, we believe that every responsible step counts — and that together we can build a more sustainable, fair and prosperous future for all.
